This multipurpose building, designed for the Mexico Japanese Association, seeks to create a contemporary space that meets the communi- ty’s evolving needs while respecting environmental conditions. The project provides a flexible indoor space alongside an exterior plaza, both designed for a variety of uses, such as Japanese language classes, ikebana and pottery workshops, training courses, and small conferences. This new addition not only enhances the range of activities offered but also creates opportunities for additional community engagement through space rental.
The building features ten adaptable meeting rooms arranged in a linear bar with a north-south orientation to maximize natural light and energy efficiency. Northern light ensures consistent, glare-free illumination for interior spaces, while the south-facing façade captures heat gain and reflected light, maintaining optimal thermal comfort during cooler months. Designed with natural ventilation in mind, the building ensures a comfortable environment year-round, reducing reliance on mechanical systems and embodying a sustainable approach to architecture.
