Rural regional house prototype

Concepción del Oro, Zacatecas

2017

The task is to design a rural minimum house prototype constructed from concrete and optimized for mass production. As Cemex is a trans- national company, the prototype should be adaptable for global applications. The design features a concrete “hardware” structure, comple- mented by modular “software” components that can be tailored to programmatic needs, local climate conditions, and cultural contexts.

Given its rural setting, the integration of exterior spaces is essential for daily activities. To this end, the design incorporates a portico, bench, and sink, extending functionality to the outdoors. The prototype also allows for flexible configurations, enabling connections between two or three houses to accommodate varying sizes. Additionally, the inclusion of expansive openings enhances versatility, providing an invaluable advantage in rural environments.
